Candied Nuts Ingredients and Adaptations:

Nuts: I used the broad term of nuts because you can really use whatever nuts you like and even mix multiple kinds together! I used a mixture of almonds and pecans but some other options could be: cashews, walnuts, peanuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, etc.

Maple Syrup: I used this as my liquid sweetener to keep this vegan and the maple flavor is really delicious in this recipe. You can substitute any unrefined sticky liquid sweetener that you prefer in this recipe. Some ideas include: raw honey, date syrup and agave.

Coconut Sugar: This is another unrefined sugar that has a delicious maple flavor to it, that tastes similar to brown sugar. I love the extra texture this ingredient adds to the recipe and it pairs so well with the maple syrup. If you want, you can replace the coconut sugar another sugar such as organic brown sugar, date sugar. You can also leave it out completely and the nuts will still turn out delicious.

Cinnamon: I added a little cinnamon to this recipe but you can change this up however you like and really make this your own. Try adding some nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, ginger or pumpkin pie spice to this recipe instead of the cinnamon or in addition to it.

Sea Salt: I like to add a little bit of salt to enhance the flavors but you can leave it out, if you prefer.

FAQs

Are roasted nuts paleo? ›

Absolutely — nuts and seeds have been here before humans ever existed, so it's safe to say that early humans had nuts as part of their diet. We've been scrounging through bushes and picking trees since day one. With this in mind, nuts are certainly paleo.

How to make candied nuts not sticky? ›

Pecans too sticky: If your nuts are still sticky after cooling, heat your oven to 325°F (162°C) and bake for 5 to 10 minutes to help harden the candy coating.

Why are my candied almonds not crunchy? ›

Don't under bake the candied almonds, and be sure to turn them every 20 minutes. And perhaps the most important tip: let the cool before digging in! As they cool, they'll firm up and get crunchier. So if you taste one fresh from the oven, don't be alarmed if it's still a bit soft.

Can you eat too many nuts on paleo? ›

If you're eating any nuts more often than as the occasional garnish, it may be too much. Because all nuts and seeds are high in inflammatory Omega 6s, and low in Omega 3s, they should be considered more of a garnish, rather than a go-to source of daily fat intake.

Why are peanuts not paleo? ›

Grains (including whole grains and those that are gluten-free), dairy, and legumes are banned from the paleo diet. That means no peanut butter or peanuts because followers of the paleo diet consider peanuts a legume rather than a nut.

Which nuts are best for paleo? ›

Nuts and seeds such as macadamia nuts, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds play an important role on the paleo diet. As do healthy fats and oils from fruits or nuts (extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil coconut oil, walnut oil, etc.).

What are candied almonds made of? ›

Combine sugar, water, and cinnamon in a saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil. Add almonds; cook and stir mixture until liquid evaporates and leaves a syrupy coating on almonds.

What is pecan candy made of? ›

The basic praline recipe includes locally-sourced pecan halves, creamy butter, sugar, and cream. However, depending on the cook and region, the amount of each ingredient and type of sweetener and fats may vary.
