Academic Advisor/Tutor Program Coordinator (2024)

Position Description

The Academic Advisor/Program Coordinator provides student support and programming functions associated with advising and retention through the Academic Success Center. The Academic Advisor/Program Coordinator is responsible for providing advising services, resources, and events for undeclared students and academic coaching services to a variety of students. In addition, this position leads and manages all aspects of the MSUM tutoring program, including program planning, goal-setting, training, assessment, and communication.

Duties

Academic Support and Advising:

-Individually advise undeclared students, using developmental advising skills and knowledge to move students to a major field of study

-Develop and manage major exploration curriculum and resources to be used by ASC academic advisors during advising appointments

-Work with campus partners to create, execute, and assess major exploration events and workshops

-Provide supplemental advising for students in any major by serving as an expert regarding academic policies and procedures, general education requirements, and having familiarity with major and minor requirements and resources

-Participate in Freshman and Transfer Student Orientation and Registration days

-Provide accessible, inclusive, and evidence-based academic coaching appointments for current students, including major exploration and academic success skill development

-Develop an academic plan with students to improve their standing when on academic warning or probation status

-Conduct academic interventions with students at risk for attrition, including students experiencing academic and personal difficulty

-Develop, deliver, and assess engaging and evidence-based academic skills and major exploration workshops and seminars as needed

-Develop curriculum, teach, and assess academic success or similar courses on an as needed basis

-Represent the Academic Success Center at campus events, including Admissions events, resource fairs, and new student orientation

Lead and Manage Tutoring Program:

-Collaborate with faculty in all academic departments to identify prospective tutors, ensure tutors are meeting student needs, and promote tutoring services

-Develop and implement communication plan for faculty, staff, and students to support use of tutoring services

-Serve as point of contact for departmental and student tutoring requests and complaints

-Hire, train, and supervise tutoring staff/graduate assistants, ensuring tutors are adequately trained to provide subject-specific and general academic skill tutoring support to current students

-Manage and control program budget of $48,820, including all supply and equipment purchasing and student worker pay, including forecasting future program costs

-Maintain International Tutor Certification, including ensuring compliance with all College Reading and Learning Association certification guidelines and assessment requirements

-Design and conduct program assessment efforts, make program decisions based on results, and share information with campus stakeholders

-Work with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to effectively track program outcomes and usage data for decision-making

-Represent MSUM to the statewide tutor coordinators group
