What is the best site to practice typing? ›

TypingClub is the most effective way to learn how to type.

It is web based and highly effective. TypingClub is (and will always be) free for both individuals and schools. There is an optional paid school edition.

Typically, professional typists type at speeds of 43 to 80 wpm, while some positions can require 80 to 95 (usually the minimum required for dispatch positions and other time-sensitive typing jobs), and some advanced typists work at speeds above 120 wpm.

It's calculated in words per minute (WPM). A good typing speed in the workplace is around 40 to 60 WPM. Roles involving more typing, such as data entry or transcription, usually require employees to have a higher speed – around 60 to 90 WPM.

Practising 'little and often' (15 -30 minutes a day) works much better than an hour or more once a week. If you practise regularly and don't give up, you should be able to learn to touch type fluently in 2-3 months, maybe even less. A total of 10 – 15 hours of practice should get you touch typing slowly.

40-60 WPM: Falling into this range demonstrates proficiency in typing. It's suitable for general office work and everyday computer use. 60-80 WPM: Typists in this range are above average and can efficiently handle tasks requiring extensive typing.

Reading rates in other languages can be predicted reasonably well by taking into account the number of words these languages require to convey the same message as in English.

The fastest English language typist is Barbara Blackburn, who reached a peak typing speed of 212 wpm during a test in 2005, using a Dvorak simplified keyboard. I hit 200 a couple of times on this site, but it wasn't accepted. It can save the score of 199,99 wpm, but not 200.

Once you've learned it, you'll be able to increase your typing speed up to 180 or even 200 WPM. Another good way to type faster is to practice typing regularly. Regular practice allows you to get used to common words and phrases, as well as improve your accuracy.
