Ultimate Vegan Turkey Roasts Review - Which One is Worth Buying? + Video (Updated 2022) (1)

This is the ultimate vegan turkey roasts review! We scoured around and found 15 different roasts and from our knowledge a side by side comparison of this size has never been done!

Whether this is your first vegan or meatless Thanksgiving or you have been vegan for awhile, then you may be looking for vegan turkey roasts.

Specifically, which ones are worth the price and the effort of trying to find?

We did a vegan turkey review back in 2020 but we only found 9. In just 2 years, we easily found 15 and crazy enough, we know that’s not all of the ones that you can purchase online too!

I have to admit that we didn’t even attempt to sub out traditional meats served on Thanksgiving for our first few Thanksgiving.

Year 1 we just had meatballs and our favorite vegan mashed potatoes. We also had some broccoli along with that.

Year 2, we just had sides (isn’t that what Thanksgiving is about food wise anyways?). We made those same mashed potatoes and also made vegan stuffing and the best baked vegan mac and cheese. And then we just had desserts.

Easy peasy.

But we wanted to know for ourselves and also share with each of you our thoughts and opinions on what was the best vegan turkey alternatives and essentially what would get you the most value for your money.

We share all that with you below!

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are my kitchen must haves for making a vegan turkey roast alternative?

You are going to need a roasting pan or casserole dish to make whichever one you prefer.
We also highly recommend that you have a digital thermometer so that you can check the temperatures on these before consuming.
For the most part they all need to be at 165 degrees F before consuming.

Are any of these Top 8 Allergen Free?

Unfortunately no. Of the nine vegan turkey roasts alternatives that we found, all of the contained wheat and/or soy.

However, we do have a few ideas of main courses that you could serve that aren’t exactly the same, but will still work as a main dish on our site. These are some of those:
Mushroom Free Vegan Lentil WellingtonVegan Meatballs
Vegan Shepherd’s Pie
Easy Vegan Pot Pies
Vegan Stuffed Acorn Squash

Are all meatless turkey roasts vegan?

No! There are a few brands, Quorn for example, who make a meatless roast but it still contains eggs. This would be fine for someone who is vegetarian; however, it’s not suitable for someone who is on a vegan diet.

Field Roast Celebration Roast with traditional bread stuffing and mushroom gravy

Store: Find out where to buy Field Roast Celebration Roasts.

Price: $12.99

Ingredients: Roast: Filtered water, vital wheat gluten, expeller pressed safflower oil, breadcrumbs (enriched flour [wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid], sea salt, cane sugar, wheat gluten, yeast, malted barley flour), wheat protein isolate, yeast extract (yeast, salt, cane sugar), barley malt extract, wheat flour, butternut squash, granulated garlic, onion powder, wheat flakes, yellow pea flour, garlic, organic expeller pressed palm fruit oil, celery, onion, lemon juice concentrate, sea salt, lentils, dried sweetened cranberries (cranberries, evaporated cane juice sugar, sunflower oil), spices, tomato paste, rubbed sage, rosemary, natural smoke flavor. Mushroom Gravy: Organic wheat flour, yeast extract (yeast, natural flavor, salt), porcini mushroom powder, cane sugar, onion powder, sea salt, shiitake mushrooms, spices.

Top 9 Allergens: Wheat.

Thoughts:

We were much more favorable to this one 2 years ago than we are today and that’s primarily due to the increased competition in the market. This came in around the mid-point of all of the options today.

That to say, if this is all that you can find, it’s still a great option. There’s a nice stuffing to meat ratio, but overall it’s just really dry. It really needs the gravy and the smaller 1lb version doesn’t come with gravy.

You did have to thaw this one at least 24 hours in advance but you could do that up to 7 days in advance.

Field Roast always makes a smaller 1lb Celebration Roast. It is exactly the same as the one in the box except that it is smaller.

Price: $8.99

Note: When we tried vegan turkey roasts in 2020 the 1lb Field Roast Turkey Roast was stuffed with butternut squash, apples, and mushrooms. It appears that they no longer make that version.

Field Roast Hazelnut & Cranberry Roast

Store: Find out where to buy Field Roast Celebration Roasts.

Price: $14.99

Ingredients: Roast: Filtered water, vital wheat gluten, expeller pressed safflower oil, cranberries, crystallized ginger (ginger, cane sugar), roasted hazelnuts, wheat protein isolate (wheat gluten, trisodium phosphate, malic acid, l-cysteine), yeast extract, barley malt extract, whole wheat pastry flour, dehydrated garlic, unsulfured dried apples, onion powder, yellow pea flour, ginger juice (ginger, citric acid), sesame oil, spices, lemon juice concentrate, sea salt, tomato paste, garlic, natural smoke flavor (torula yeast, smoke flavor), rubbed sage, rosemary, natural liquid smoke flavor. Puff Pastry: Unbleached wheat flour, organic expeller pressed palm fruit oil, filtered water, salt, citric acid.

Top 9 Allergens: Wheat, Hazelnuts, Sesame.

Thoughts:

This is definitely the better option of the Field Roast roasts in our opinion.

It is much more brown once cooked than the red hue that appears on the box. We did absolutely love the puff pastry texture and it’s almost reminiscent of a Wellington.

The texture of the meat and stuffing mixture seem about the same so if you are someone that doesn’t do the meaty texture of vegan meats well, then this would be the one for you.

We did think that it shouldn’t be compared to a traditional turkey roast like some of the others and thought it had a somewhat sausage-y, somewhat curry-like taste to it.

You did have to thaw this one at least 24 hours in advance but you could do that up to 7 days in advance.

STUFFING:

Allergens: Soy and Wheat

Thoughts: While we enjoyed this one a few years ago, again it wasn’t high on the list for this time around.

The Feast option pictured above comes with roast, gravy, and brownie. It says serves 6, but the brownie is very small.

The stuffing really elevates this higher and it’s preferred over the traditional bread stuffing.

If you do end up with the one note that it’s dense and it would do better with thinner rather than thicker slices.

The gravy is nice, but has an acidic tang that may turn some off.

You did have to thaw this one 24 hours before but there were instructions for temp and time in case you forget to thaw.

Thoughts: We liked the crispy texture on this one and the stuffing and gravy were delicious. The stuffing is somewhat overpowdered by cranberries that we don’t feel like we noticed when trying two years ago. There is a really stuff meat to stuffing ratio on these.

Thoughts: This one was a bit smaller than the others. It looked like a crunchy chipotle burrito for size reference. It could have used more seasoning in the breading on the outside.

That aside, the taste was great and we really liked it a lot.

The gravy was like an herby chicken stock gravy and we liked it a lot.

Roasts from frozen. Comes with plenty of gravy.

Roast: Water, Soy Protein Concentrate, Wheat Gluten, Soy Protein Isolate, Expeller Pressed Sunflower Seed Oil and/or Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Potato Starch, Wheat Starch, Methylcellulose, Yeast Extract, Organic Cane Sugar, Onion Powder, Salt, Garlic Powder, Tapioca Starch, Sea Salt, Spices, Natural Flavors. Stuffing: Onions, Unbleached Enriched Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Celery, Water, Portobello Mushrooms, Wheat Gluten, Yeast Extract, Cane Sugar, Sea Salt, Yeast, Expeller Pressed Sunflower Seed Oil, Natural Flavor, Salt. Thoughts: This is essentially the same at the above but with a mushroom stuffing.

We actually prefer this stuffing versus the larger one; however, these were not filled as much as they should have been and the crust got insanely hard. We wouldn’t recommend these for that reason.

Aldi Earth Grown Vegan Meatless Turkey Breast

Store: Only available at Aldi locations.

Price: $4.99 for 2 patties

Ingredients: will update

Allergens: Soy and Wheat.

Thoughts: These are also a no for us; however, they have improved. In 2020, we thought it had an intense mustard flavor and tastes more like a vegan fish cutlet rather than a turkey alternative.

It would be more great on a sandwich or something like that, but agreed it was definitely not a turkey alternative.

There are two versions this year – an herbed and plain variety. It’s very oily.

It is the cheapest and fastest to cook, taking just 10 minutes to make and didn’t need to be thawed.

Vegetarian Plus Vegan Turkey Roll

Store: They don’t appear to have a store locator. We found at Sprouts.

Price: $34.99

Ingredients: Vegan Turkey Roll: Water, Textured Soybean Protein (Soybean Protein, Wheat Starch, Wheat Protein), Soybean Oil, Soy Protein Isolate, Trehalose, Spices, Yeast Extracts, Black Pepper Powder, Modified Tapioca Starch, Sea Salt, Enzyme, White Pepper Powder. Vegan Glaze: Water, Sugar, Mixed Berries (Raspberries, Blackberries, Cranberries), Grape Juice, Corn Starch, Cinnamon, Pectin, Cloves, Locust Bean Gum, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid.

Allergens: Soy and Wheat.

Thoughts: This was a big win! Larisha said 3, Andrew said possibly number 1 but couldn’t decide.

It had a lot of great flavor – peppery on top. And the cranberry glaze was delicious and full of flavor. Larisha didn’t like them together necessarily but those if there were mashed potatoes to neutralize that may be better.

It was the most moist one out of all that we’ve tried.

Upton’s Vegan Holiday Roast Slices in Gravy

Store: They don’t appear to have a store locator. We found at Upton’s.

Price: 9.99

Ingredients: Water, vital wheat gluten, soy sauce (water, soybeans, wheat, salt), chickpea flour, tapioca, nutritional yeast, whole wheat flour, canola oil, sea salt, onion powder, garlic powder, granulated garlic, granulated onion, spices.

Allergens: Soy and Wheat.

Thoughts: This was a definite no for us.

It smelled off (like that dog food smell some vegan meat has) both before and after cooking. The gravy didn’t become saucy and stayed gelatin like even with following the instructions on the package.

They were really like deli meat slices and not a roast.

All Vegetarian Inc Vegan Turkey Roast

Store: This is the only one we didn’t buy. All Vegetarian sent us this product for us to test. You can purchase on their website.

Price: $60.00

Ingredients:

Vegan Turkey: Water, Non-GMO Textured Soybean Protein, Non-GMO Sunflower Seed Oil, Non-GMO Soybean Protein, Brown Sugar, Pea Protein, Carrot Extract, Sea Salt, White Pepper and Chili Powder.

Vegan Stuffing: Brown Rice, Red Quinoa, Sweet Potato, Taro, Edamame, Cashew, Chestnut, Shiitake Mushroom, King Mushroom, Lotus Seeds, Pinto Beans, Potato, Carrot, Sea Salt, Vegan Mushroom Seasoning, Non-GMO Sunflower Seed Oil.

Allergens: Soy and Wheat.

Thoughts: This has the largest cost, but it’s also the biggest coming in a 5lbs compared to the 1 or 2 pounds of the others.

We loved the crispy skin that this one gets on the outside. The stuffing seemed like way to many random ingredients; however, they all worked really well together.

The texture of the meat part is really meaty, but we enjoyed it and it had a great meat to stuffing ratio.

No Evil Foods The Pardon

  • Store: See where to purchase the No Evil Foods The Pardon here.
  • Price: $19.99?
  • Ingredients: Filtered Water, Vital Wheat Gluten, Yellow Onion, Organic White Beans, Chickpea Flour, Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Nutritional Yeast, Organic White Miso, Celtic Sea Salt, Organic Herbs and Spices.
  • Allergens: Soy and Wheat
  • Notes: We tried this one in 2020, but not 2022. One reason is that we didn’t like it at all, two we didn’t even see it this year to purchase it if we wanted to, and three there is a lot of controversy around firing their entire production staff in 2021.
  • Thoughts from 2020: We weren’t thrilled here. The texture was a bit off for us and the herb crust just wasn’t something we liked personally. This one also didn’t specify that you needed to thaw, however cooking from frozen took an hour longer than the directions stated in order to get it up to temperature
