ULike Review: How to Permanently Remove Hair at Home (1)

It’s nearly summer and if you have plans of going to the beach or hanging out by the pool with friends or your kids and are already dreading shaving every few days, this post is about to change your life.

In January, I invested in an at-home IPL device that made big promises of permanent hair reduction from the comfort of home with virtually no pain and I’m happy to say this hair removal product has delivered—so read on to find out if this is right for you!

Why I Wanted to Try At-Home IPL

I did IPL years ago, like 14 years ago when I was living in Dallas. I only did my bikini line and underarms and for the most part, it’s stayed mostly hair free, but after having kids and getting older, I’d noticed a lot of it coming back. I started thinking about going back to have it done again but the price steered me away. At this point of my life, I wanted to save that money for a future house project!

This winter really changed my mind though. I’d been getting horrible ingrown hairs from coarse leg hair and even after I’d shaved, you could still see the dark coarse hair underneath the skin which drove me crazy.

There’s nothing worse than shaving your legs and it looking like you hadn’t! On top of that, the hair would grow back within a day or two and I was just over it.

The biggest reason I was excited about this was that I could do it at home—in the privacy and comfort of my own home and on MY SCHEDULE. A huge turn off of going to a salon for hair removal was having to book it, get in my car, drive there, strip down in front of a stranger and then come and do it all over again for 6-12 sessions. Oh, and the cost is high! According to this article, laser hair removal averages $582 and could go up for additional session. Yikes—that can add up quickly!

Then I saw and ad for an at-home IPL device called the ULike Air 3 that promised permanent hair loss from the comfort of your home and I was majorly intrigued. I did my research because there are lots of these products on the market and ended up going with this one because many reviews said that it was less painful because of the cooling technology.

What is IPL Hair Removal?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair removal is a popular and effective method of getting rid of unwanted hair. It uses light energy to target the melanin, or pigment, in the hair follicles. The light energy is absorbed by the melanin, which then heats up and damages the follicles, leading to hair growth reduction.

How does IPL Hair Removal work?

IPL hair removal works on the principle of selective photothermolysis. The intense light pulses emitted by the device target the hair follicles’ melanin, while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. This is different than laser hair removal.

This is why IPL is considered a safer and less painful alternative to traditional hair removal methods like laser hair removal, waxing or shaving.

How Does the ULike Air 3 Work?

The ULike Air 3 is an IPL device specifically designed for at-home use. It utilizes advanced IPL technology to effectively remove unwanted hair and provide long-lasting results.

The ULike emits intense pulses of light that are absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicles. This process generates heat, which damages the follicles and inhibits future hair growth. The ULike Air 3 has multiple energy levels, allowing you to customize the treatment according to your skin sensitivity and hair type.

What I Like About the ULike IPL Device

ULike Air 3 Works Well

One thing I really love about the ULike Air 3 is that this thing WORKS. After using it for just 3 weeks, I noticed a visible hair reduction in a major way. I noticed a decrease in hair density in the hair that was growing back. I was actually shocked with how well it worked—so much so that I went raving about it to my sister who also bought it and has seen the same results.

I had no more skin irritation on my legs and it gave me silky skin. Truly a dream!!

It’s Quick

I’ve been using my ULike for my bikini line, legs and underarms and each session takes me about 12-18 minutes. I don’t have to do anything besides shave before and I usually just do that the night before.

It’s Mostly Painless

For the most part, it’s completely painless. Occasionally it’ll feel like a rubber band snap, but that’s not that bad either. If it’s been on for a bit, towards the end of a session, it can get a little warm, but it has cooling technology that other devices don’t have so you don’t really notice it.

It’s Compact

The device itself is easy to hold with one hand and has a button to emit the flash of light. It’s lightweight and easy to manuever.

Three Levels

It has 3 levels of heat—I typically use the highest one because it’s been the most effective for me and doesn’t hurt other than the occasional pop. It also has a feature where it runs continuously which is great for large areas like your legs.

Easy-to-Use

I can’t stress this enough—it is SO easy to use. I read the instructions and was off to the races. It has a large button for emitting the light and an on/off button, plus small lights to let you know which level you’re using.

Comes with a Nice Storage Box

This isn’t really a major selling point for me because I just store it under the sink, but it is nice to have a good storage box for it that I can just pop under there so it doesn’t get wet or dusty.

How to Use the ULike Hair Removal Device?

To use your ULike device, you’ll need to shave any visible hair the area that you want to remove hair on. I know this sounds counterintuitive, but it will hurt if you don’t shave. The IPL device targets the hair follicle, so we don’t need the hair!

Once shaved, you put on the safety goggles and on clean skin with no lotions or serums, press the IPL window on the area and press the button.

You can change the intensity and turn on continuous mode by reading the instructions in the box. You should notice a big difference within 4 weeks of treatment or sooner.

Does it Hurt?

Nope! I was worried that even though they promise a pain-free experience that it might still burn a bit, but it doesn’t. As I mentioned earlier, occasionally you’ll get a pop that feels like a rubber band snapping and I find that this usually only happens when I have a hair that I didn’t shave.

If it gets too hot during your session, you can turn it off for a bit and then resume again in 15-30 minutes.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  1. Convenience: One of the major purchasing decisions of buying the Ulike IPL devices is that I could do it from home! Instead of having to schedule appointments and visit a dermatology clinic or aesthetics salon every time you want an IPL treatment, you can simply use the device on your own time and in the comfort of your own home. Honestly, with kids, at-home is the only way this would ever happen with our schedule!
  1. Cost-effective: Compared to repeated visits to a professional clinic for IPL treatments, investing in a Ulike IPL device can be more cost-effective in the long run. While the initial investment may seem higher, the device can be used multiple times without any additional cost, providing you with ongoing treatments at a fraction of the price. This is great because you can do touch-ups as necessary for free!
  2. Long-lasting results: IPL hair removal can provide long-lasting hair reduction, with some individuals reporting permanent hair loss after multiple sessions. This makes it a cost-effective solution in the long run.
  3. Versatility: IPL can be used to remove hair from a wide range of the body, including the face, arms, bikini, back, legs and more!
  4. Fewer Ingrown Hairs: With less or no hair, ingrown hairs are now a thing of the past. My legs are so much softer, smother and less irritated and you can’t see the black hair under my skin.

Cons

  1. It Doesn’t Work on Everyone: IPL targets the melanin in your hair and if there’s not enough contrast, it won’t work. It works best on those with dark hair and light skin. If you have blonder hairs, they may not be removed with this tool. To find out if your skin color and hair color are a good fit, check this page!

If you hate shaving and are looking for permanent solution to unwanted hair, ULike devices are a great option. I’ve been really happy with he hair removal experience and will continue to use and touch up as needed. You can use them at home whenever it’s convenient for you and tackle any areas of body hair you want to see gone! I hope my ULike review helps you make a decision on whether or not this is a good option for permanent hair removal for you!
