After posting Olive Garden’s Zuppa Toscana soup a few weeks ago, you might begin to think Zach and I have an Olive Garden addiction. And you would probably be right. It’s okay. We have nothing to hide.Unless you have never been there {Yeah, those people exist}, you probably understand what is so appealing about this delicious Italian food chain. When we go there for lunch, I almost always get their soup and salad option. Partly because it’s cheap, partly because it’s delicious, but mostly because it’s bottomless. #girlscaneattoo When we go for dinner, I usually play it safe and get their Fettuccine Alfredo. I love that stuff so much and it also makes for really great leftovers

The one thing that I can’t leave Olive Garden without eating though, is their breadsticks. Holy toledo, they definitely have the best breadsticks I’ve ever had in my life. Ask anyone. They’ll agree. They’re soft, but crispy when you bite into them and that hint of garlic tops it all off. It’s no wonder i eat at least four every time we go there. After trying numerous times to recreate them, I think I finally did it! Try this and let me know what you think.

Ingredients

  • 1cuphot water {105-115ºF.}
  • 2Tbsp.granulated sugar
  • 2tsp.active dry yeast
  • 2& 1/2 - 3 cups bread flour
  • 1&1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4cup{1/2 stick} salted buttersoftened
  • Topping:
  • 3Tbsp.salted buttermelted
  • 1/2tsp.garlic salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in the water and let sit for 5 minutes, until top becomes foamy.

  2. In your stand mixer bowl {or regular large bowl}, combine 2&1/2 cups flour and the salt. Using the paddle attachment {or a good ol' fashioned mixing spoon}, mix the softened butter into the flour until well combined.

  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and use your dough hook and knead for about 8 minutes. Dough may be sticky, so if you need to, add a little bit more flour, until it stops sticking to the sides. Don't add more than 1/2 cup though.

  4. Place the dough in a covered container and let sit for 1&1/2 hours, until doubled in size.

  5. Once the dough has doubled, measure out 2 oz. portions of dough and roll each one into sticks that are about 7 inches long.

  6. Place the dough sticks onto baking sheets and cover and let sit for 1 hour, until doubled in size again.

  7. Preheat oven to 400ºF.

  8. Bake the breadsticks for 10 minutes, or until just beginning to lightly brown.

  9. Combine the melted butter and garlic salt and just after the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them with the butter mixture, using a pastry brush.
