It depends on your local authority as to whether they accept thePolystyrene boxes if you opt for our standard packaging. Many ofour customers have become quite creative with their boxes and haveused them for many things including cool boxes, storage orplanters.

do you own your own farm?

We do not have our own farm, but we work directly with smalllocal farms. We know our farmers, we've known them for years, andwe know that by working with them closely every day, everybodywins. We get to send you the best meat, and our farmers can rely ona fair price, and trust in our support for traditionalhusbandry.

isyour meat organic?

Organic is not one of our sourcing credentials. Our mainsourcing criteria is well farmed, well finished, breeded meat fromin or around the North Yorkshire area and occasionally outside ofthis county if we find the right supply.

However, our farmers do farm to organic standards but withoutthe 'official' accreditation. Most of our farms have been aroundfor generations and use traditional & non intensive farmingpractices to rear their livestock. This includes traditionalfeeding & finishing methods. We encourage our farmers to takeadvantage of Government Land & Wildlife Regeneration Schemessuch as HLS. We do appreciate the merits of Organic farming, but wefeel that the above scheme offers greater benefits than thestandard 'organic' accreditation - to the environment but also thefinished product.

Our cattle feeds on grass, silage, haylage and other meadowpasture grasses. All our poultry is reared on a rich and naturalmulti-grain diet including maize and they are finished on a varietyof finishing grains such as brewer's grain, starches oats &barley. Our Sheep feed on the land they roam, with a natural dietof wild grasses, flowers, herbs, and heathers. A composite nut willbe added during harsher winter months when grass can be scarce. This is to protect the welfare of the animal.

do your farmers useantibiotics?

We do not routinely administer antibiotics, the only exceptionwould be where veterinary intervention is specifically required forthe welfare of an individual animal. Luckily, this is extremelyrare due to the healthy and natural ways the livestock is rearedand cared for.

is any of your meat halal?

The animals we source our meat from at Farmison & Co are notreligiously slaughtered.

do you have your ownabattoir?

Here at Farmison & Co we do not have our own abattoir, butwe are proud to say we use very small local abattoirs. One of ourlocal farmers even has an abattoir on his farm site. We use theclosest abattoirs to the farms as possible to reduce transit timeand reducing the stress for our animals and keeping them as calm aspossible. Thus, also keeping our carbon footprint to aminimum.
Every animal is slaughtered as ethically and humanely as possible. All our slaughterhouses are BRC approved, some of which are membersof the HSA - Humane Slaughter Association.

how are your animalsslaughtered?

Across our portfolio of abattoirs, our cattle are stunned with acombination of a captive bolt or penetrative bolt.

Our chickens, pigs and lamb are all stunned byelectrocution.

They use a horizontal sticking technique for sheep and cattle, and vertical sticking for all pigs.

All our slaughterhouses adhere to the FSA Guidelines on thehumane treatment of animals before during and after slaughter. Wedo not buy animals that have been religiously slaughtered -including pre-stunned.

We and our Farmers believe that the death of an animal commandsthe same respect as the life.

There is fluid in the vacuum sealed packaging with the meat. What should I do?

You can cook and enjoy the meat as normal. We pack all of ourproduce fresh after having been prepared by hand. On occasion, moisture may leak from the meat into the watertight packaging. Thisis completely natural, and you can simply wash this liquid down thesink when you're ready to open it. We do not under anycirc*mstances soak our meat in water prior to packaging.

My turkey gravy isslightly discoloured?

You might notice a slight green tinge to our festive turkeygravy. This varies from batch to batch and is by virtue of the factwe use only use natural whole vegetables ingredients to make ourgravy. The natural particles of the vegetables colour the gravy. Aslong as the packet is within date, this is perfectly safe toeat.

This allowsus to go above and beyond when it comes to meat traceability.
