Fairprice Finest Clarke Quayis the 40th NTUC Fairprice Finest outlet in Singapore. The new 14,000 square foot outlet is situated within CQ @ Clarke Quay. This is an interesting outlet that combines the functionality of a supermarket, the affordability of a food court and the fun of a well-stocked bar under one roof.

Fairprice Finest Supermarket
The supermarket part of the new outlet is similar to other NTUC Fairprice supermarkets that our readers will be familiar with and so we need not spend too much time on this. Other than to say that the product mix might not be the same as other Fairprice stores. For example, you may probably find more varieties of whiskey than olive oil at Clarke Quay.

The Grocer Food Hall is the more interesting heart of the new Fairprice outlet at River Valley. It is the f & b centre of the place. Here, diners can enjoy a variety of culinary options from food stalls. Like a food court, customers can order from the stalls serving a range of international cuisines such as Straits Flavour (Peranakan/local food)), Mezzi (Mediterranean), Shinshima (Japanese), Atavola (Italian) and LPB Market & Bistro (Western food).

In addition, a well stocked wine and spirits section welcomes visitors to the new Finest outlet. This is perhaps the most beautiful section of the place. Since food from the other sources can be brought over here, this was where we chose to have our lunch.

Reasonably priced wines are sold for retail as well as for consumption within The Grocer Food Hall at Fairprice Finest Clarke Quay. A $8 corkage charge is payable in the case of the latter.

You Pick, We Cook @ Fairprice Clarke Quay
Buy a selection of meat or seafood from the supermarket section and have it cooked and served at Shinshima in the Grocer Food Hall area. A service charge for cooking is payable. This is not the first Fairprice pick and cook location. We had tried this before at Fairprice Vivo City.

Meat up to 300g costs $12 to cook. Other options are available.

In our case we selected this piece of Australian ribeye and had it cooked for us. Total cost was $27.80 + $12.

Wine and Dine at The Grocer Food Hall
This is main dining hall. It looks very much like a food court.

This is a picture of our cooked Angus Ribeye steak. The taste was not bad. But eating it out of a paper box with plastic utensils was not the best steak experience.

Our choice of wine was a bottle of red wine from the Rhone Valley, France. The 2020 Domaine L’Amandine ($29.90 + corkage $8) was fruity and uncomplicated – very good considering the price.

Linguine with pesto ($9.90, picture above) from Atavola Pasta & Pane was served in a generous portion. The taste was not bad but we would have liked the pasta to be more al dente. The smoked burrata bacon tomato and basil ($19, picture below) was a more sophisticated dish. The smokiness of the burrata was the highlight. We would eat this again.

The best dish of the day was the curry chicken value set ($8.80) from Straits Flavour. We would go back to Clarke Quay just to eat this.

The Croque Monsieur with Goat Cheese ($11.90) from LPB was a value for money dish. The large portion will satisfy those with a healthy appetite.

Overall, lunch at The Grocer Food Hall, Fairprice Finest Clarke Quay was an interesting experience. We would recommend it to those dining in a group with different preferences in cuisine but share a common interest in drinking.
