Old-fashioned Spritz cookies

Old-fashioned spritz cookies are a favorite any time of the year, but they’re especially loved during the holiday season. This Cream Cheese Spritz Cookie recipe makes delectable, shortbread-like decorative treats that everyone will want to gobble up.

Not only are these spritz cookies delicious to eat, but they make a fun, creative project for your kids. Whether you are baking a few dozen for your Christmas party or have to churn out a couple hundred for a charity bake sale, these spritz cookies are a snap to make, thanks to a recipe that comes together effortlessly and the ability to use a cookie press.

What’s the Heck is a Cookie Press?

Even if your mother never had a cookie press while you were growing up, you definitely had more than a few cookie press cookies over the years. A cookie press is basically a cookie dough extruder. Simply fill up the cookie press chamber with the dough, place the bottom of the press on a prepared cookie sheet, and pull the handle. Out comes a perfectly proportioned and stunningly beautiful cookie ready to be baked.

You can change the look of your cookies by using a different die. Common dies include wreaths, trees, and leaves, but you can find hundreds of different dies, so you can always find one that matches the occasion.

If you don’t already have a cookie press, they are a relatively cheap and handy kitchen gadget for anyone who likes baking or finds themselves having to make large batches of cookies a couple of times a year. A decent cookie press will run around 20 to 30 bucks, but you can find even less expensive models online. Here are a few models of cookie presses that I like.
