We’ve all heard that having oats for breakfast is great way to start the day. A popular choice all year round; you can add endless topping combinations for variety. But are the myths about oats helping your skin appear youthful true?
Rich in antioxidants
Whole oats are full of antioxidants, which are thought to reduce the signs of ageing. Antioxidants limit the production of harmful reactive oxygen species. These are partly responsible for causing damage to skin cells, which can lead to wrinkles, acne, sun spots and inflammation. By eating foods rich in antioxidants, there’s a possibility you could reduce or delay signs of ageing.
A small amount of reactive compounds are not a bad thing. They help our bodies adapt to biological change from internal or external challenge. So although consuming antioxidant-rich foods is good for skin health, you shouldn’t try to cut out all oxidants - a balanced diet is still important.
