Make-ahead dough

When mixed, this dough is very soft. If you are baking the cookies on the same day then the dough needs to be refrigerated for a least 30 minutes.

Or place in the freezer for about 15 before shaping and cutting.

However you could just prepare the dough, and refrigerate it for up to 3 days before shaping and baking.

Decorate or frost as you prefer

This is a basic recipe and is absolutely amazing as is. It is also very versatile so here are a few delicious suggestions for you to try:

  • Toss a few chocolate chips or cranberries into the dough
  • Add in some grated orange rind.
  • Dip the baked cookies in white or dark chocolate or use both.
  • Sandwich the baked cookies with vanilla ice cream, keep them in the freezer. Serve as chocolate ice cream sandwiches
  • Drizzle melted chocolate over the baked cookies.

How to make 4 ingredients Condensed Milk Chocolate Cookies

  • Using an electric or hand-held beater start by creaming the butter until soft and pale ( about 2 minutes)
  • Add the condensed milk and mix for one minute or until combined.
  • Sift the flour and cocoa powder into the butter mixture and mix until well combined. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes or place in the freezer for about 15 before shaping and cutting.
  • Roll the chilled dough between 2 sheets of wax or baking/ parchment paper. This ensures that the dough does not stick to the rolling pin. It also eliminates the need for the use of more flour, creating a softer bake.4 ingredients Condensed Milk Chocolate Cookies (2)
  • The rolled dough should be about 1cm thick.
  • Cut out the dough using any shape cookie cutter you prefer.4 ingredients Condensed Milk Chocolate Cookies (3)
  • Bake the cookies for between 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and leave the cookies to cool on the baking sheet. Using a spatula, transfer the cookies to a wire cooling rack and cool completely before decorating as you prefer.

Hi was excited to try these but didn’t turn out as I thought. The texture and flavour were not great. I am wondering if my measurements were wrong. I went by grams but noticed 1 cup of butter = 225g and 1 cup of cocoa powder = 100g. Please could you clarify the amounts because I would like to try it again. Many thanks!

Hi Jade, I am sorry that you had a problem with this recipe
To clarify: 1 measuring cup of butter is 225g and a measuring cup of cocoa powder is equal to 100g on your scale. You can scale down the cocoa powder to half a measuring cup which is equal to 50g ( 1.3 oz) if you found the cocoa flavour too dominating.
I hope that this helps answer your question and that you do give it a try again 🙂

Since this is a soft dough, have you ever tried dropping by rounded spoonfuls rather than rolling?

    Reply

    • The Gardening Foodie says

Hi Joan 🙂 yes this dough can be dropped with a spoon or ice cream scoop and you can do that too if you prefer. If you want uniform shapes with exact sizes then rolling and cutting would seem the way to go with this type of dough.

These are super yummy and delightfully quick and easy to make. They had a rich, chocolaty taste that reminded me a little of Oreo cookies. I dusted mine with a Icing sugar for a sweet note and a decorative flair.

    Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Could you put chocolate chips in?

    Reply

    • The Gardening Foodie says

Hi,sure, chocolate chips can be added.

However I suggest you press the chocolate chips on the top of the cut cookies before baking instead of mixing into the dough.

This is so you do not have to roll out a bumpy dough filled with chocolate chips, which can create uneven height, resulting in uneven baking.

I hope this helps answer your question 🙂

      Happy baking 🙂

Hi, I was wondering if the cookies are soft and chewy after baking or crisp texture. Never used condensed milk in my cookies before. Thank you

    Reply

    • The Gardening Foodie says

Hi Dana, these cookies are more of the soft chewy type. You could bake them for a few minutes longer if you prefer a crisper cookie (watch it doesn't burn though 🙂

      I hope this helps 🙂

      Happy baking 🙂
